Fairbanks
The "Golden Heart of Alaska"

Fairbanks is situated in the interior of Alaska and because of this is often referred to as the "Golden Heart" of Alaska. Fairbanks is a small "college town" with a population exceeding 100,000. There are several miliatry bases in the immediate area; namely Fort Wainwright and Eielson Air Force Base.

With the University of Alaska hosting both the nearby International Arctic Research Center [IARC] and the Geophysical Institute, it is typically refered to as a 'college town".
